Hello, Can you advise me how to approach this problem? I have more than 5 years foreign work experience as an accountant, but my work experience in Canada is as a bookkeeper.

Can I claim previous work experience as bookkeeper NOC 12200? I heard that the accountant can also perform bookkeeper tasks, so it's fine this way. also accountant is a senior position to bookkeeper so it makes sense to claim points. what does IRCC exactly say about this? i cannot seem to find exact guideline on this one.

As long as you can back it up with a proper education credentials, work experience letter adhering to IRCC guidelines, paystubs, income statement, tax certificate, etc. I suppose you should be good to choose the accountant NOC!

But I want to use that experience as a bookkeeper not as an accountant.

Can I claim previous work experience as bookkeeper NOC 12200? I heard that the accountant can also perform bookkeeper tasks, so it’s fine this way, especially in contexts like mississauga small business bookkeeping where roles often overlap. Also, accountant is a senior position to bookkeeper so it makes sense to claim points. What does IRCC exactly say about this? I cannot seem to find exact guideline on this one.
IRCC allows you to claim work experience only if your actual job duties match the NOC you’re claiming. Job titles and seniority do not matter. An accountant role does not automatically qualify as NOC 12200 (Bookkeeper). You can claim your foreign experience as a bookkeeper only if your reference letters show you performed most of the core bookkeeping duties listed under NOC 12200. Otherwise, IRCC can refuse the points or the application.
