I am a licensed physiotherapist in the UK and have 1.5 years work experience as a senior physiotherapist from UK. I completed my bachelors of Physiotherapy from India, and have almost 3 years of work experience as a physiotherapist in India. I want to apply for the Federal skilled work express entry healthcare category as a physiotherapist, and want to know do I have to be licensed in Canada before applying or my foreign experience will be counted in the application, and I can get licensed in after I am granted with the PR. Also, how do IRCC differentiate and pick up the healthcare applications as a foreign licensed physiotherapist. I am currently in the process of getting my ECA and IELTS for the application.

From what I’ve learned, your foreign work experience is definitely counted in the Express Entry application, but being licensed in Canada is required to practice here legally. Many people apply for PR while completing their licensing requirements, so it’s possible to start the process before getting fully licensed. IRCC looks at your credentials, work experience, language proficiency, and how your profession aligns with Canadian labor needs. While preparing, I found it helpful to research physiotherapy near me to understand local practice standards and expectations, which gave me clarity on both patient care and professional requirements. Starting early with ECA and IELTS definitely makes the process smoother.
