I have sponsored my child with cerebral palsy under the dependent child category for permanent residency in Canada.

I would like the child's mother (who is not my spouse) to accompany him as a caregiver to Canada to take care of him. Can anyone advise on which category I should apply under for the child's mother and what program would be appropriate? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Which province do you live in? Does the child's mother have paid work experience as a caregiver?

I live in Alberta and child’s mother has no work experience she has been taking care of my cerebral palsy child since birth.

In that case I don't see any way you can bring her to Canada as a caregiver.

Could you please elaborate on the type of work experience required and the job description necessary to be eligible as a caregiver?

You can read about the process through the link below. She would need to have related paid work experience of at least six months within the last 3 years.

The program is currently closed. It will most likely reopen in January. Only a limited number of applications are accepted and spots fill up very quickly. Once an application is accepted, processing time is approx 3 years.

You have to be eligible too so read employer requirements. You need to not only meet LICO but then show you can afford to pay a full time caregiver’s salary of around $35k. You need to give a valid job offer & being the child’s mother will bring more scrutiny to the file.

Also child must be PR & living in Canada with you first. So first step is settling your child in Canada as caregiver cannot apply until then.

Is it possible for the mother of my child to apply for a visitor visa to accompany our child, given that he cannot travel on his own due to his medical condition? What are the chances of approval?

She can apply. She needs her own funds (cash in the bank), ties to return (job letter with approved leave, business, investment properties), and travel history. Given her son is landing as PR and unless she has other children being left behind, her chances are low but it is possible.

Given he is landing as PR and has to go through PR formalities at the airport, it is probably best if you accompany him. His mother is coming as a visitor and doesn’t not need to go through PR formalities. Your ex should not have to do it. She may be asked more questions on why you are not accompanying the child and why she is coming to Canada. He is coming as PR so you should be present.
