Travelling to Italy on RTD from Toronto

Italy is visa free on RTD and I have booked two tickets separately Toronto to Dubai then Dubai to Rome, Italy. Will be changing planes.

The reason for stopover is Dubai is coz my Wife and Kids joining. Will be staying airside, and next flight is with 24hrs window.

my question is is there any concerns with this trip as using RTD. Though first time travelling to with separately bought tickets.

Will be up to airline and UAE if you can board. Your travel itinerary doesn’t make sense so that may be an issue. Your spouse and children could meet your in Italy.

Itinerary should not matter visa-free as long as you have a return or onwards ticket. However, the UAE has passport control even for airside transit and does not accept RTDs.

I did transit via UAE a few times before with RTD the only difference is i bought separate tickets this time. Before it was same PNR

Hi taniya , did u transit thru qatar , i m planning to go to nepal via Qatar , would be very helpful to get your response . I have tried everywhere but not getting any proper info on this. Thanks

Make sure to confirm Qatar’s transit requirements with the airline and Qatari authorities before booking,

Checked with airline , they asked me to check with embassy . Tried calling them a lot of time they dont respond .

They’re right, I presume you may need a transit visa, but please confirm with the Qatari embassy, as the requirements for Canadian RTD holders may differ.

Hi Pikaa, since the airline pointed you to the embassy, a few general tips for a layover like this. Ask the airline to put in writing, or at least note in your booking, what they require for your passport type at the connecting airport. If you can't reach the embassy by phone, try email or their website contact form, and keep a copy of any reply. Having a booked onward ticket and a valid passport for the whole trip usually matters at check-in. Staying airside versus leaving the airport can change the rules, so ask about both. A single booking for the whole journey is also easier if a delay causes a missed connection. Check everything before you pay, and good luck with the trip!
