Hi everyone.

I need help. So my father is now a citizen in Quebec, and I want to go in as visitors visa and stay in my cousin's place in Ontario is that possible? And look for a job there since its easier than Quebec. Thank you!

He cannot be a citizen of Quebec as it is a province. If a citizen then it is a citizen of Canada. How did he get Canadian citizenship and you didn’t? What does you visiting have to do with your father? How old are you? Cousin can give letter of invitation and you show your own funds, travel history, ties to return. Assume you understand the work permit process.

What I meant is that my dad is now a Canadian citizen and is residing in Quebec for 10years+. I'm beyond the age limit for him to sponsor me, im 26yrs old. Now, since there is a temp policy in Canada rn that you can look for a job while on a visitors visa only till February 2025. And working visa is expenisve, I was planning to go there as a visitors visa and look for a job and just convert it to working visa. The problem is I wanna stay with my cousin in Ontario and look for work there cuz Quebec is kinda strict? And I dont speak french.

You can look for a job but you cannot convert a visa. All the policy is is that you can remain in Canada while it is processed. Most if no all jobs are posted online so apply on Canadian job sites. You need a job offer and your employer needs to file for and pay $1k for a LMIA. The LMIA shows that no Canadian or PR could be hired, only you. Then with LMIA, you apply for a closed work permit which you pay for. For the permit, you show that you are experienced to do the job. Depending on the job requirements, you may need IELTS for language and ECA for education. Most if not all jobs posted will say that you must be a citizen, PR or a person with work authorization to apply so no point in applying for those jobs.

So plan for it to take many months, if you even get a LMIA. So make sure you have a lot of funds if it takes up to a year.

I see. So I can't just look for any companies unless they are LMIA approved right? I can't apply into like example a fast food rest unless theyre LMIA? I mean is it really hard to look for a job that is LMIA?

So like again is when my dad's invation for me gets approved, can I stay in Ontario instead of Quebec? But I will land in Quebec and just travel to my cousins in Ontario thats my plan.

It will be very difficult to find an employer willing to go through the LMIA process and hire you especially if you don’t have a rare skill that are needed in Canada. There have been a very large number of newcomers that have arrived in Canada who are struggling to find employment even though they can work legally in Canada. Many international students who are a similar age to you have not been able to find jobs in Canada while they study. Everytime there is an announcement for basic service jobs in a store hundreds of people line up to try and get hired. Many people have seen the announcement that you can now apply within Canada for a WP but it is still incredibly difficult to secure a WP and it can take 6+ months at times even if you are successful. The economy is not doing as well as around a year ago so there are many more people competing for limited supply of jobs. With the changes to international student applications and the very high CRS requirement leading to many not qualify for PR after working in Canada for years many are trying to secure WPs in Canada as an attempt to move to Canada or extend their time in Canada hopefully to eventually qualify for PR. What is your work and education history?

Sadly many are offering to pay for job offers and due to demand because of unemployment in places like China and India many people are willing to pay more. Sadly it is not uncommon to hear about people paying 50k+ for a job offer. It is illegal and if caught they could lose status even if many years later and are PR or citizen and the business and/or immigration consultant/lawyer will face repercussions. It is not a good idea to pay for a job but sadly many of people getting WPs are likely paying for the job offer out of desperation. Hopefully the governent will do a better job cracking down on this illegal activity. Giving you a realistic view of what you should expect. Many are arriving thinking converting a TRV to a WP will be easy when it is actually quite difficult.

Your cousin should invite you if you will be staying with him. If you plan want to attempt to apply for a WP in Ontario it will be obvious that you are not visiting your father in Quebec and are staying with your cousin.

Wow, thanks for explaining that. I'm now having second thoughts in coming to Canada, dont want to waste money if im not gonna secure a job there. I'm currently working from home as a call center agent. And i only graduated 2 years in information technology. I found online that are already LMIA approved and thyre hiring.

The thing is my cousin just invited her sister and I dont know if its still possible to invite another relative? And if she can invite me, will there be complications if she'll be the one to invite me instead of my dad who is already a citizen there? I know its easier if he'll be the one to invite me but i dont wanna stay in quebec

Thank you so much! ☺️

One last question. My cousin just invited her sister and I dont know if its still possible to invite another relative?
