Hello everyone, I officially became a PR last October (soft landing) and I will be moving permanently this August.
I plan to rent a place instead of buying, and I noticed that I will, in general, need rental reference and credit check.
Indeed, I have worked in Canada (Work Permit) during 2017-2019 for two years. I emailed my two previous landlords, however, no response.

At this moment, I plan to stay in Vancouver or Calgary or Edmonton

i) For rental reference, should I get a letter from my previous landlords? or I just pass their contact info to the future landlord?
ii) Is rental reference really always asked for?

many thanks

Yes references are usually asked for. Name and phone number and previous address is usually what is required. A letter is too easy to falsify.

Great, I have all these information. I even have the scanned copy of the signed contracts. Hope everything is smooth.

Might suggest looking into any `Newcomers to Canada' programs that may be available in the areas that you're considering.

Considering the fact that you plan to stay in Vancouver, you wouldn't be able to buy there regardless.

Rental references are not that important. Credit check is more important. If you have a full-time job, you will be fine. That's the most important part, tbh.
