idk about that. shorturl.at/cmpy1

I cannot see myself raising a family in Canada. A guy over here can't even find medicine for his kids. My former colleague cannot get his kid to a doctor. They made plans to fly to Mexico to show his kid to doctors over there.
You do realize that this is a North American problem, not a Canadian one.

In fact, the drug shortage crisis in the US is much worse:

Well, my mother is visiting. In my she fell down stairs. We went to emergency and got her checked up. Total time: 3-4 hours. It included an x-ray and a ct-scan.

I think going to mexico will be extreme unless its some very unusual situation. If you need, you can get a doctor in emergency. if this was a very specific specialist, then i don't know. My son gets his eye check up here. Specialist is hard to get but not impossible.

My friend's wife had to undergo an emergency surgery in november due to a tumor detected in end of october. all things were fast.

I believe its general care that is more impacted in canada.

And yes, OTC drugs are hard or impossible to get and you have to smuggle them from usa because peple are hoarding them. Prescription ones, I never had trouble.

Hm... I spent 6 hours in ER when I felt on ice. When I asked a front desk, I was told that my estimated time would be 14-17 hours. I just went home. Maybe, it's Ontario problem?

I am not sure about the kid. I know that he has hard time breathing. My friend cannot get him to the doctor. The appointment is in May; signed up in October.

It may be a triage thing because my mother had hit her head on wooden floor.

Healthcare is right now highest issue for canadians.
https://www.ctvnews.ca/health/health-care-surpasses-inflation-as-top-national-issue-of-concern-nanos-1.6176739

There is bound to be an action on this issue.
When there is going to be one, I will look look at the solution and re-evaluate my option. Maybe, in couple of years, Canadian healthcare will be good and my salary will be good enough. Going to the USA for maybe 60K extra would not be worth it any more. Right now, I cannot afford anything in Canada and the benefits like "free" healthcare are not just not good enough.

Maybe. Regardless, I am glad your mother is safe. I saw a girl crying in the ER while I was there. She couldn't sit still; was sitting kind of in a bend over position. She was crying non-stop for 6 hours; I left afterwards

triage is about risk. they usually do not consider "pain" a part of it unless its a part of medical issue.
You may be in pain like hell but someone else may have higher priority due to their situation.

I was once hit in eye (by my wife no less) and was in massive pain. I had to wait in lobby for 45mins - 1 hour. It was painful as hell. They gave me an eye drop to lower the pain a bit. This was not canada btw.

I understand that. However, a sign of a good healthcare is to see the patient within reasonable time. 17 hours is not reasonable time. Even if it's just "pain". I will be happy to let your mother get priority; no questions asked. I am not happy that I would have to wait 17 hours to see anyone. If I cannot get help within reasonable time because of "pain", then I don't have healthcare at that particular moment, which sucks because I sure as hell pay for one.

Indeed 17 hours is not a good waiting time. I know these folks are overloaded as hell.

One more thing. "Pain" can be a serious deal.

I used to play hockey back home. Just outside, nothing special. During one of the games, one of the kids got body hit by another player. Regular situation. After the game, he said that he is pain and doesn't feel too good. We kinda laughed at him because "cowards don't play hockey". He went home. He ended up in hospital later that night. Why? Because he broke his rib and his rib punctured his lung. Not deep enough so everyone would see it but enough to cause internal bleeding. He woke up coughing blood.

Sure. I understand that. I just have more trust that the USA will fix the problem; I have less trust that Canada will. Most likely, Canada will get those drugs from the USA. See example of COVID-19 vaccines.
I work in Pharmateuticals, most drugs Canada gets is manufactured in US. Most Pharma companies in Canada are just a branch of the US side. There are of course European ones too. Generic drugs are cheaper in Canada cos they buy from places like India/China whereas US FDA is particular about places like that. Branded drugs - no competition here. But this is where US really hikes prices lol

As I said, "unless its a part of medical issue".

Chest pains are given due haste in ERs in Canada. Complain about chest pain and they will hook you up to a ECG and take your BP in minutes. Once they are sure that its a Non Cardiac Chest Pain, probably some acid reflex or something else, they will make you wait in ER for 10 hours before a Dr looks at you.

And why is that? Maybe, because Ford cut the funding and many doctors move to the USA for more money.

I understand all the negatives about the USA. Yes, there are mass shooters. Yes, there are racists. Yes, there are Trump supporters. However, the job market is huge + way higher salaries + ability to buy a home/condo with the salary + more diverse economy + lower CoL. All those things matter to me. Canada is safer place + clear immigration pathways. That's pretty much it.
