Hello,

My oath ceremony is scheduled for 10th September. I have my trip for India planned for 2nd Dec.

What kind of visa is best and fastest for India? I feel like I don't have enough time because I yet have to receive Citizenship certificate, canadian passport. Also, can I apply for visa alongwith surrender application?

Any help will be highly appreciated.

You can apply for a visa even if your surrender application is in process and can do it on the same day. Book an appointment at BLS while waiting for your Oath / Canadian PP. If you get the certificate in time, there is plenty of time to sort this out.

Thank you so much! Which visa is quicker? Entry or tourist?

Hello!

This might be a reply and a question.

I am flying to India on a Canadian passport on Sept 25th (13 days from today). Mistakenly, I was under the impression that all visa and travel related problems disappear when you get a stronger passport but traveling to India remains a struggle. (The short 3-4 day eVisa process remains unavailable to Canadians, which I didn't realize until three days ago.) Called BLS. The rep suggested that entry visa would be the best for persons of Indian origin and that there is enough time for me to courier the application vs. lining up at 4am outside the VAC, even if I post the application on Sept 12. My application will be on the courier van today (fingers crossed), but I remain doubtful. As I type this, I await a call from Air Canada to try and push out my departure date, although I don't see any no-need-to-sell-kidney flight options at this point.

Has anybody else applied for an entry visa to India recently (since May 2022) through the Brampton VAC? How long did it take? Thanks for sharing!

We are in the same boat. The agent at BLS told us 30 days for entry visa.. I really dont believe this is right... must be 2 weeks max to get visa..

I'm in similar situation, submitted walk-in Entry Visa application in BLS Brampton on 13th Sep. The application is in processing state so keeping my fingers crossed.

I applied on 30th August and got it on 2 weeks mark so you should be good. And you can not apply VISA without Canadian passport so you need that.

So the BLS agent was wrong - although I sent my application giving exactly two weeks (10 business days) for processing, I still have not received my passport and had to reschedule my tickets from Sept 25 to Sept 30. Neither could I get through BLS over the phone this time nor did I get a reply to my web forms.

(I should have written TATKAL on my application! It pops up in a window when you first visit the site, but you cannot find it written anywhere else! I thought I must have imagined it until I saw it again today. >/ Did anyone else write TATKAL and get a quicker turnaround? Someone here got it in two weeks and didn't mention having written tatkal...so I guess it doesn't matter.)

So far, all I've received is an email from the consulate "Visa application is accepted and passport is with the agent." No idea what this means. Did I get the visa? Which agent is it with - someone at the consulate or at BLS or Purolator? Status still shows "Processing at the consulate." Today is the 12th day since I sent the application.

Three more days until my flight. Wondering if I should wait 48-24 hours longer and then rebook but also fearful of the fare difference...
