Hello,
My father is currently in Canada on Employer Specific Work Permit status, his visa sticker on passport is expired and he want to visit home for some time, can anyone suggest me about how can he apply for the new visa sticker on his passport (I mean in which category he should apply and where) so that he can visit home and can go back, because on his work permit document, it is specifically mentioned that, that work permit document won't make him eligible for re-entry.

He applies for a visitor visa or TRV.

Thank you for replying, can you just tell me about one more thing, He currently does have a valid Employer Specific Work Permit which is valid up-till April, 2024, and if he will apply for new visitor visa, will his work permit status get affected or not. I mean can he have both work permit and visitor visa simultaneously?

No impact. Work permit allows you to work in Canada, while TRV allows you to enter Canada.

Is he currently working for the employer and will he be working for the employer on his return? If so he should travel with proof of leave from his employer and the employer should indicate the date of his return to work. Does he have a valid TRV that matches the expiry date of his WP? If he doesn’t have a valid TRV it will take months to obtain so should apply as soon as possible. He will need to provide proof that he is working full-time for the employer specified on his WP. Would include letter from the employer, proof is receiving g salary with bank statement and salary statement if provided.

He is currently working for the employer full time, and will be working for the same employer upon his return as his WP is employer specific, he can obtain the proof of leave from his employer, He currently only has his Work Permit document on him, as he traveled to Canada on the visitor visa (now expired), and due to the policy (due to covid) for allowing visitors to apply for work permits, he obtained the work permit while being inside Canada, for that reason, they didn't give him the visa sticker on his passport. He does have proof of paychecks, and bank statements in Canada. I do want to mention one thing that, as his visitor visa was expiring and his work permit application wasn't approved, he had also applied for the extension in his visitor visa application so that his status can remain legal while he stay in the country. That online application has not been decided yet up-till now.

He should apply for a new TRV and not leave until he has secured one or could get stuck abroad for quite some time. The fact that he is waiting for a new WP also complicates things. When did his WP expire and when did he apply for his new WP?

His work permit is valid up-till April 2024, He had applied for the extension of his status as a visitor when his WP application was already submitted, however, his WP was approved and he has the valid document as WP, but his extension of visitor status application has not been decided yet. I am confused whether to wait for the pending visitor visa application or apply for the new one.

When did he apply for a new TRV?

March 2nd,2022. Applied online as extension in visitor visa application.

Just to make sure you're aware, applying for an extension to the TRV only allows him to remain in Canada longer (without leaving). The extension does not allow him to leave Canada and return. If he wants to leave Canada and return, he needs to apply for a new TRV (not an extension).

Can you confirm if he applied for an extension or a new TRV?

He should have heard by now. Would follow-up with IRCC. When does TRV expire? Did he have a single entry TRV?
He had the multiple entry visitor visa. I understood now that he need to apply for the new TRV instead of the extension for the visitor visa.
Thank you so much for your time and advising. Much appreciate it.

He applied for extension in his stay as a visitor, thanks for clearing up the confusion, he should apply for the new TRV.
