Hi, I just got my PR approved and wanted to sponsor my parents. I moved to Canada from US last year and my previous yeas' income is enough but I have only one-year CRA record, which does not align with the ask "Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) for the last 3 tax years " (source).

- Has anyone successfully sponsored family members like this?
- If I can sponsor my parents, anyway I will need to live in Canada until they get approval, right?

Thanks in advance!

US income will count only if you were residing in Canada (such as a cross border worker) during that period.
Summary as per what CIC told me 3 years ago, for foreign income to be considered you need to be residing in Canada at the time the income was earned. Probably because you'd have filed Canada taxes so it would have appeared on tax papers.

It needs to be 3 CRA returns. Foreign tax returns aren't accepted.

Yes, you'll need to live in Canada while you sponsor them (once you have the 3 CRA returns and qualify).
