Sumas Border seems to be closed option from Chillawack. Once you arrive at US Border Control, inform them you intend to flagpole. They will issue you administrative refuse( orange referral paper) and send back to Canada Border Control where you'll submit application package. It is legal processing but if you are wary of border crossings, it can be intimidate but it is straight-forward....You need to have both your TRV and SP Valid to avoid being stuck in a middle...

I read previous post that you applied for reconsideration through your lawyer, then the fact that your SP was refused then this may not be an option to take.

Yes I consult my lawyer he told me if I’ll go to border I’ll be going back to my country, just waiting on my reconsideration request I don’t know how it will go

Hello everyone,

This is in reference to my PGWP application. I have completed my Masters with a DLI in BC, Canada and i am eligible for a Post Graduate Work Permit. I had a valid student visa until 31st October 2022. I had initially applied for my PGWP from my home country as i underwent a knee surgery and was not allowed to travel. This first application was made on 18th August 2022, i received an email on 14th October 2022 saying my PGWP has been declined.

I then decided to fly down to Canada since i had a valid student visa and applied for my PGWP again from inside Canada on 28th October 2022. Its now been well over 2 months but there is no update on the status of my application.

I tried calling the helpline number but they said my application review has not started yet even though they have received my application.

Is there anyway I can find out the status of my PGWP or get any timelines of sort?

Also, can i leave Canada until i get a response from CIC and then later come back once it has been approved? I dont have a valid visa, so whats the best alternative to enter back into Canada?

I am not sure how many people are in the same boat as mine, but Any help here would be highly appreciated.

Processing is 5-6 months so you are well within processing times. If you called and they told you that eligibility hasn’t started then you know the status of your file. What are you doing right now? Why was your PGWP refused and did you address your refusals?

If you leave Canada, you need a TRV/visitor visa to re-enter. Do you have a valid TRV?

Thank you for the revert @Naturgrl .. my initlal PGWP was rejected as there was a break in my previous visa extension. I did manage to explain them in details why there was a gap there when i re-applied for the PGWP.

I dont have a TRV currently.

another question, can i leave Canada and go back home while my PGWP is under review and then apply for a visitor visa from my home country?

So did you have an authorized break? You would want to school involved to show that you were authorized to take the gap. An explanation from you may not be enough as you were rightly refused a PGWP. You must maintain full time studies with no breaks. You can apply for a TRV in Canada or from home country. However, from home country it can be many months. Google - IRCC processing times - for times.

So the break initially was due to COVID, however i had applied for my student visa extension before which had been processed without any issue and thats how i was allowed to complete my program. infact when i applied for my study visa extension in March 2022 to complete my final semester , i was granted my study visa without any problem albeit only for 6 months (which expired on31st oct 2022)

Approval of Study visas and extensions have nothing to do with PGWP eligibility. Did you meet PGWP eligibility requirements with Covid rules in place? Where was the break? We’re you full-time?

Yes i was a full time student, however, due to Covid travel restriction we were given distance learning as an option. I did complete my course, so i am automatically eligible for a PGWP on course completion.

But you said you took a break? So you didn’t take a break and was full-time with no breaks online. If you didn’t why was your first application refused. Completing your course doesn’t make you automatically eligible.

When did you start your program? How many semesters? Post your timelines.

Also why did you reapply and not ask for reconsideration? What is your status in Canada now if your study permit expired? Did you apply for PGWP without status?
