Parents Visitor Visa - Waiting for more than 1 year

I applied for visitor visa of my parents and have been waiting for more than 1 year. No response from CIC, no updates to online profile.

I saw some people on canadavisa have emailed CIC to travel exemptions email while applying Super Visa. They have asked for "Family Reunification" which is allowed during COVID and successfully received a super visa.

Can someone guide my with below 2 options
i. Can I send the same email for family reunification to CIC to expedite my parents visitor visa?
ii. Can I also submit a super visa application in parallel while waiting for visitor visa? I do meet all requirements for a super visa and then I will send email to CIC for Family unification travel exemption during COVID

@imacuser I am in same boat as you. Applied in Feb 2021. Biometrics was done in August due to covid. Now there is no response from them and the case shows as still processing. What did you do? Any update?
