I am a PR since June 2015. I work for a startup based out of singapore. The company does not have any clients in Canada and nor has any plans of opening a branch in Canada. They are ready to keep me on their roles in Singapore and pay directly into my Canadian account. Is this possible? I have 2 options 1) work for the singapore based startup as an employee and they pay the salary by transferring money from Singapore to my Canada account. Or 2) I work as a consultant /contractor.

Which is better from a legal point and tax benefit?

Option 1- If they are keeping you as employee, then they need to process the Payroll in Canada. There are many companies who would do that for a fee. This may entail more work from company side, and they might not be willing to do that for single employee.

Option 2 -This is much simpler, you just invoice them they send you a check. Then at the time of tax filling you pay all your dues. You might have to clear your dues quarterly with CRA.
