Work as a freelancer online whike waiting for spousal sponsorship?

Hi I am a korean and waiting for my spousal sponsorship in canada.
I am waiting for my workpermit from inland sponsorship and i currently have visitor visa.

Does anyone know Upwork? Its an US base website offering freelancer jobs.
Would I need a permit to find a job there? I would like to work as a translator or data entry like simple jobs. It pays through PayPal and employers are all over the world depends on jobs.

I just want to make some pocket money while I'm waiting for my permit.but I certainly don't want to do it if it violates the Canadian laws.

Please help me if you know something.

You can work online remotely, as long as the employer/client is not in Canada.
