Permanent Resident Travel Document in India

Hi Everyone,

Need urgent help!!

I am in Canada currently and recently received my Confirmation of Permanent Residence. I completed my landing in Coutts, Alberta on April 18, 2014. I have still not received my Permanent Resident Card but have to travel to India on May 31st. I will be in India until June 14th 2014 and would need to get back to Canada to resume work.

Could someone let me know how long it would take to get a Permanent Resident Travel Document in India.

You can not even apply to get a PRTD until you are in India and from what I have read it can take anywhere from 30 to 90 days. You would not be allowed to come back to Canada without it and if you must return to work by June 14, odds are greatly against you making it and that could cascade into you loosing your job. Without having your PR card in hand before traveling you are risking a lot so the question becomes, do you want to risk it?
