Hi,

We have recieved an intimation from CIC to do our medicals and pay the RPRF fee. The wording in the letter carefully and repeatedly mentions that it should be paid in Canadian dollars encashable at Canada or US funds encashable in Canada.

Our lawyer is recommending that we pay it in Canadian dollars to avoid any issues with the exchange rate. I am a bit confused if Citibank US can generate a Bank draft in CAD that the CIC will accept.

I am hearing that most banks can issue foreign cheques for a fee but am unsure if CIC can encash it in Canada.

Any help?

Assuming you are in the US and your visa office is actually located in the US (e.g. Buffalo?), there are no "exchange rate" issues - there is a fixed fee in US dollars. Of course they can change, but ... unlikely to matter unless your lawyer is planning to sit on the submission for several months...

If you get a cashiers' check from Citibank in USD it is encashable in Canada. As for in CAD, good luck in finding out. Suggest you just go to your branch and ask a real person (forget online or telephone assistance).

Yes, you are right, my lawyer told me to pay USD because you will mail the check to NY or buffalo, right?

The thing is how much do we pay, it asks for 490 CAD? So how much USD do we pay? The exchange rate fluctuates all the time. My laywer told me to pay 455 USD, but I am not sure if it is sufficient, if not, will they send back and ask again? Confuse~

Thanks

Sigh. There is a FIXED FEE for USD. The link I posted above takes you to this page:
