I am currently am an international student on an open work permit which expires in 1.5 years. I just received a job offer by my employer and we are unsure on how to proceed with this.
Originally, I would like to have my employer to submit for an LMO and while that is going on, I would continue to use my open work permit to work with them. However, after contacting the CIC Call Centre, I was told that I cannot apply for a new closed work permit until at least 30 days before my open work permit expires.
If that is the case, then it would be very risky for me as the LMO/work permit might be rejected towards the expiry date of my open work permit and I would be out of status.
In addition, if the company would have to apply the LMO later on, they would have to demonstrate the job search/advertising effort again. What a mess...
I wondering if anyone could have any advise on this matter?
