I'm a Canadian citizen who left the country for years and plan to resume residency next March/April. Planning to get married this October in Vancouver as a visitor (my partner is applying outland PR now). Do you think if I would:

- open a bank account
- reinstate driver's license
- rent an apartment
- buy a car

during my October trip will make me deemed resident and liable for tax in Canada starting October for year 2016?

I have in my mind to set something up so my Mar/Apr residency resumption will be smoother but not sure if these are no no (or 1 to 2 is okay to get done and not trigger deemed resident for taxation)?

You could probably get away with #1 and #2 without being deemed a resident, but if you did #3 and #4 (or all of the above), CRA would most likely deem you to have strong ties to Canada and tax you on your global income.
