September to April is probably a pretty normal timeline for New Brunswick.
That’s fine, but I don’t understand how he became a candidate even before becoming a citizen, not to mention the IRCC background checks that takes forever to complete...

He isn't a candidate yet. As it says in the article, he could be disqualified because he is not yet a citizen.

They don't take forever. My partner's app took less than 6 months from submission to test. That is pretty standard for our area.

This guy became a prospective candidate probably because he demonstrated interest in running for public office, got involved in helping homeless shelters, new immigrants, public libraries and not hanging around visa forums.

That's interesting.
Is getting both the citizenship test and oath dates in advance a usual thing? In NB at least?
To my knowledge, it happens mostly to people who get their citizenship on their test date, or the next day for those who live far from an IRCC office.
Or is this mainly linked to the high profile of the guy?

In all cases, congrats to him.
