There is no set income requirement for spousal sponsorship. That being said the sponsor has to show proof of how they will support their spouse once they land in Canada. How you will survive financially and so on. It is easy enough to show your intent by sending in a detailed employment plan. Also, with regards to housing arrangements or financial support from family. You can write a letter explaining if you have an offer from family or friends to stay with until you "get on your feet".

About the second part of your post: It depends on the VO you will be going through as the processing times vary. Outland the first stage is I believe approximately a month. Stage two, is country specific. Some are 6 months some 13 another 24.

you can "choose" on the application form, but it's either your country of residence (if you have a visa for more than 1 year to that country), or your country of nationality. You can pick one of the two (if you're living in a country different than your nationality), but CIC can always decide to send it to the "other VO".

For example: if you're from Saudi Arabia, but have a valid student visa to the UK for 2 years, and have been studying in the UK for 2 years, you can choose London, because you would be a resident of the UK. However, CIC can still decide to send your file to Abu Dhabi if they think that it's more appropriate to your case.

Yes. The only real difference between married partners and common-law partners is that common-law partners must provide evidence that they have lived together for at least a year.

As far as (no request for) minimum income, does it matter if my common partner and i are submitting a request from abroad? Does the fact we have a child (who is a CA citizen) change that?

There is no set minimum income, but CIC *does* want to see that you have a plan and will be able to support yourselves without drawing on welfare. When applying from outside of Canada, one of the requirements is showing CIC that you have a plan to relocate to Canada. In this plan, you will need to address how you two plan to support your family after you return.

5.33. Exception to minimum necessary income requirement

The ability to meet the minimum income requirement is mandatory, unless the sponsor is sponsoring a spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner or a dependent child where the child has no dependent children of their own. This exception also applies to persons under the age of 18 whom the sponsor intends to adopt in Canada.

nina - once again you don't know the true circumstances of the applcations you are using as an example. sponsors are NOT found ineligible because they make low/no income. There are many sponsors who do not make an income and are approved for eligibility. When CIC can prove the sponsor has used social welfare (NOT mat leave or EI) within a certain timeframe before the application, THEN the sponsorship will most likely be denied. In this situation, it's the sponsor's responsibility to prove they are off the welfare list, and they are no longer receiving social assistance. The sponsor is not required to show bank statements. The option c form will show CIC all they need to see. It has nothinng to do with how much money a sponsor makes! STOP FINDING APPLICATION ISSUES THAT HAVING NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU AND ASSUMING YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE DENIED.
