Hi

Hope all are doing fine and thanks to all of you for maintaining such an awesome informative and helpful platform.

I am a Canadian PR just completed 14 months (residing in Canada). Due to some family emergency in back home I have to be outside of Canada for quite a long time (may be around 1.5 years). My PR will expire on June 2017.

My question is - how long can I stay outside Canada and secure my PR.

Thanks
Tom

You may be outside Canada up to 1095 days in a 5 year period, your first 5 years after getting PR and any 5 year period after that. You could do it all at once or bit by bit as long as you don't go over that total.

When you want to return to Canada, as long as you were not outside Canada for 1095 days or more in the past 5 years or since you got your PR if that was less than 5 years ago, then you are ok.
