Hi,

I have two chronic diseases where I on regular medication for them.

I'll be in Canada from this August and I'm going to be on student permit.

Can anyone help me with how things will work?

First 3 months I'll be on guard.me insurance. During orientation college still help to enroll us in government insurance plan.

Now can you help me what should I do to get my medication once in Canada?

I'll be getting 6 months supply from my home country.

Someone suggested that I can just go to emergency and ask the doctor for a prescription for refill..
Thanks!

You can of course go to any walk in clinic (loads of tgem about) and see a Doctor, who would renew your prescription. You must pay the clinic and pay for the drugs too.

Thank you for your reply.

What I wanted to understand will the drugs be little subsidized or I'll have to pay full amount?

Have you been approved for a permit? The excessive demand levels are lower for students. You can only bring a 90 day supply of medication with you by law. Have you looked up MSP? Have you looked to see if your school provides an extended health benefit plan that you pay into?

Thank you for your reply.

My school gives guard.me insurance which only covers emergency. In MSP the enrollment takes 3 months by law. So once I'm in MSP will I get prescription drugs at cheaper rates?

What school do you to? Do you have a health and dental plan? I have looked up some bc schools and it is part of the fees.
