Hi,
I am a Canadian PR, and I'm planning to move (temporarily) to Canada from Bermuda with my husband while he gets medical treatment in Canada. I have asked my Bermuda employer if I can work remotely for them while I'm in Canada. I realize that, if I stay longer than 183 days (and because my spouse is there) that I will likely be considered a resident for Canada tax purposes.
My question is, will my Bermuda employer have to withhold the tax due to Canada, or will I have to pay it myself when I file a tax return for 2016? Also, will my Bermuda employer have to deduct CPP and EI, or do I? I don't believe Bermuda-Canada has a tax treaty.
Thanks for any answers you can give.
