Dear members,

I recently gave birth to a child in Alberta (3 weeks ago). I'm planning to return to my home country in 2 months. Neither myself nor the baby's father are Canadian citizens or permanent residents.

The father's name isn't on the birth certificate as he wasn't present in Canada during the birth.

I'm wondering if anyone has experience navigating citizenship and passport applications for a newborn in this situation.

Would the father's absence on the birth certificate cause any complications?
What are the recommended steps for obtaining travel documents for my child?

Any advice or resources would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your help!

Pickup a child's passport application at any Canada Post locations and complete the application. You would need the child's passport photo.

There might be complications in the future.
