I am from India and now living in the United States with my husband and daughter. I got my COPR through Ontario PNP on November 16th,2023. Our COPR expiry date is August 30,2024. we're expecting our baby in the month of July,2024. However, we want our baby to be born in US. so, we're planning to move to Canada after our baby is born.

We came to know from FB groups that we need to inform IRCC about change in our family status, as our COPR will be deemed invalid soon after our baby is delivered, and we need to follow the process of getting new COPRs .

However, I did not find any details of such on IRCC website, I am very confused and worried, as IRCC seems to be not responding to Webforms, so that option is out of the window, Some people suggested earlier that we need to contact our VO. so if that's true then,

1- How to contact our VO?, Where can we find their contact info.?
2- What are the steps after that, what is the timeline we can expect till we have our new COPRs.?
3- Do we need to submit the original documents (passport, birth certificate of the baby) or wait till we get the response from them?
4- What is the response time from VO.?

Additionally, I have a colleague who was in the same situation, but she went to Canada without informing IRCC about their newborn, and did a soft-landing with their baby and came back to US. Border agent asked about the baby, but they mentioned that "Baby is a US citizen and will be travelling as a visitor and they will be adding their baby to their profile later on", and Border agent let them through.

I WOULD REALLY APPRICIATE IF YOU CAN EXPLAIN THE PROCESS IN DETAIL, Provide any IRCC or CIC links if possible.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE.

My best bet would be, just let them know that you are going to have a baby soon and couldn't travel till some point of the time via Webform and then wait to see if you get any response after a month. If not just travel and do the soft landing like your colleague did. While going i would say take this Webform confirmation as a proof so that it would be easy for them to convince in case they say otherwise. Good luck.

So we were in a similar situation - received COPR in September and baby was due in December
We read the same that we need to inform IRCC if there is a change of family composition, also its clearly written in the COPR document that a change in family compositon has to be informed and this COPR would be invalid if the information present on this has changed.

COPR could take around 6 months back in 2022. So we went ahead and did the soft landing in October - no questions asked.

Our plan is to sponsor our baby as soon as we finally move to Canada.
We haven't taken a trip after his birth but I have read that the baby can enter as a US citizen/Canada Vistor. - another option is to apply for the new borns PRTD before travel.

Also while sponsoring the sponsoring parent has to be in Canada throughout.

Get USA citizenship for baby. Don't apply for Canadian Citizenship for baby later. Let baby be just USC till 18. When baby(he/she) turns 18 - after that apply for Canadian Citizenship. This way baby would have 2 citizenships after 18 years. If you apply for Canadian citizenship before 18 years (Baby), s/he would have to choose just 1 citizenship at 18. Let baby be just Canadian PR + USC till 18.

That’s such a valuable suggestion.
however, if you could clarify what do you think the best course of action would be while we are staying in Canada for the next 2-3 years.
make him travel on visitor visa?
But doesn’t that have a maximum time?
