Applying for work permit on a visitor visa ?

Hello guys,
Here is something which I would like you guys to clarify, If you are staying in Vancouver, BC, Canada with a study/work permit and say, if that permit is about to expire and you end up without getting a chance for extension. So you apply for a visitor permit from within Canada ( applying before expiration ) to extend your stay here. My question is once you a get a job offer later that can sponsor the work permit, can you get it by applying for it from within Canada when you are on a Visitor visa inside Canada. Btw I am a India Citizen so can i be able to do that ?.

Any thoughts on it or experiences like it ?. Would certainly appreciate your reply.

1. No visitors in Canada, in the situation you describe, can't apply for work permits in Canada. They will either have to apply to an overseas office or at a Border port, if eligible.

Hey PPM, do you mean/think we can stay in Vancouver on a visitor visa till we get an job offer with LMO/docs and then go to the border port like Canada-US border like Peach arc point and apply for work permit ?.

Acestar... the easiest and the best approach would be to apply for PR and get AOR before your WP expires, once you get the AOR, apply for BOWP, that way you are open to work for anybody legally.

Yes, if you don't require a medical or TRV, then you could go to the boarder. Note you will probably need your police report as well.

I was asking about this way bcoz a friend of mine said this way of getting work permit at border with a visitor doesnt work for people from India/few countries. So was wondering if that was the case ?.
Though I would be applying for PR soon, was asking it in case I run out of time before that.

Partially true.... India is not a VISA exempt country which means even if you a valid Work Permit, you need a VISA to enter the country, thats exactly why it gets complicated if you enter Canada with Visitor VISA and then try to get WP.

PR would be the best option, IMO, please look at that option.
