Is there a real advantage about applkying for the passport in person? Is there a huge difference for example in terms of timing or how it gets delivered to you or also in terms of documentations?

If there is any issue they will tell you on the spot. There is no suspense. Also tracking becomes simpler as you get a receipt so is the payment for processing application.
