    May 2018 - Citizenship Applicants

My citizenship certificate was mailed earlier this week, on October 1. It took three months from when I received my AOR. The delay was probably caused by my only having a birth registration for my father, not his birth certificate, and because I legally changed my first name in California 16...

Ontario birth registration vs birth certificate with cit 0001

Thanks to all of you who replied to my questions. My citizenship certificate was mailed on Oct 1. I am now a Canadian citizen! In case it helps someone, I sent only the printed copy of my father's birth registration (shown earlier in this thread) and not the original hand-written birth...

    May 2018 - Citizenship Applicants

No, I haven't. I've been careful about that! I can still log on and check my status I also haven't received any email since the AOR email I received on July 3. I'm hoping the delay is only because the birth registration certificate I sent them is an old style. Ontario sent it to me in 1996...

    May 2018 - Citizenship Applicants

Congratulations! I received my AOR eight days before you received yours, but I'm still waiting for a decision. The delay might be because my father, born in 1915, never had a birth certificate. All I was able to provide was his Ontario birth registration. I'm hoping it's just taking a little...

    Am I Canadian ---- I KNOW I'm sorry!!

I am in a similar situation, except that my father was born in Ontario in 1915 and was naturalized a US citizen with his family when he was 19. As far as I can tell, you and I are both eligible. I applied for my citizenship certificate two months ago. One potential eligibility difference...

Who Can Certify Documents in the US?

I was waiting for someone more knowledgeable than I am to reply to your question, but since so far no one has, here's my opinion. Notary publics in Canada are not the same as in the US. In the US, requirements vary from state to state, but generally require just passing a test. In Canada...

Who Can Certify Documents in the US?

Tina, I made my appointment entirely by email to get the consulate in SF to certify my documents. The email address I used is SFRANG@international.gc.ca. It can take several weeks to make the appointment, especially if the time slot you need is already taken. However, while the process itself...

    Citizenship Certificates

Someone in Arizona posted in this forum last month that their total processing time was 3.5 months, and that it took one month for Sydney to acknowledge receipt of the application. You can read it at...

Who Can Certify Documents in the US?

I had my documents certified at the Canadian consulate in San Francisco. They do it Wednesday mornings by appointment. Regular notaries in California can't do the required certification. I don't live in San Francisco, so getting there was a hassle, but I didn't see a reasonable alternative.

Ontario birth registration vs birth certificate with cit 0001

I did what you suggested and have just received a reply. It's just a generic reply, not answering my question at all. I guess I'll go ahead and submit my CIT-0001 using the printed birth registration that Ontario sent me in 1996. Neither the consulate nor Archives of Ontario recognized it as...

Ontario birth registration vs birth certificate with cit 0001

Actually, no. The certified registration that Ontario sent me in 1996 is printed. I've attached an image of it with identifying information blacked out. The consulate was so certain that this would not be acceptable for citizenship that they did not charge a fee for the three certified true...

Ontario birth registration vs birth certificate with cit 0001

Thank you. That was my original understanding about my eligibility. However I learned a long time ago that there can be so many hidden clauses and exceptions in the law that I won't fully believe it until I get my citizenship certificate. I hope you're right about the birth registration. It...

Ontario birth registration vs birth certificate with cit 0001

Thank you for the suggestion, hawk39. I've just submitted my question on the webform. I had planned on sending my CIT-0001 today, but now I'll wait to get a reply. However I am concerned whether they will reply - the email confirmation I received seems to say that, like on the webform, they...

Ontario birth registration vs birth certificate with cit 0001

I very much hope you're not right! Becoming a citizen means a lot to me. However I appreciate your detailed reply and will investigate it. This was my understanding of the law, but I have never been confident of it and have worried about my father's US naturalization. My CIT 0001 is ready to...

Ontario birth registration vs birth certificate with cit 0001

My father was born in 1915 in Toronto. I was born in the USA in 1944 and am applying for citizenship by descent. The problem is that I don't have my father's birth certificate. However I do have I have his certified birth registration that Ontario sent me in 1996 (marked "Extract of Original...
