Applying outside of Canada (Hong Kong)

Regarding staying in Canada while your application is being processed, it is possible but not a given. My understanding is that it is better not to go until your sponsor has been approved. It is also advisable to demonstrate ties with Hong Kong, like a return ticket and somewhere to live in case...

We submitted our application in mid Jan 2017 and sponsorship approval was very fast, but things seem to have slowed down since the application reached Hong Kong. Our case is as straightforward as they come (applicant is from UK, married over 15 years, 2 Canadian children, living together in HK)...

Canadians have to declare they are moving back at airport?

As far as I understand it, if your wife and child are returning residents, then they are supposed to declare this to customs at the airport and present their form BSF186 and list of goods to follow in order to avoid paying duty when their goods eventually arrive. They may be asked for evidence...

I am looking at my quotes too. Just be careful to read the fine print. My cheaper quote does not provide a full unpacking service - only the furniture is unpacked and put in position while the boxes of personal effects are only placed in the correct room for you to unpack. My more expensive...

And forgot to mention that moving and landing are two different things. Your wife needs to land but not to move to Canada before that expiry date. Some people just take a quick trip over to Canada for a day or two to land and then return to Hong Kong to make preparations to move later.

From what I've read on here, the letter granting the PR visa will have an expiry date before which she will have to land. Often that expiry date is one year from when the medical was completed. That is my understanding from what I've read, but I hope someone else with more experience can confirm!

Thanks. Have you use them before? I've never heard of them before and have not seen any comments about them (positive or negative).

JANUARY 2017 - OUTLAND SPOUSAL APPLICANTS

I think it's definitely the Ottawa VO that's fast. We're old too!! And our application is also straightforward with all certs submitted upfront (except HK Police who send the cert direct to the VO) and we used the old application, but we're with the Hong Kong VO so it will be interesting to see...

We're trying to choose between Links and Santa Fe. We asked Crown to come give a quote but they (their admin people) were hopeless, taking over a week to call back and then trying to arrange an appointment 3 weeks in the future. Both Links and Santa Fe sent people over very quickly to provide...

We're only mailing things to the HK office because our cases have been transferred to Hong Kong after sponsor approval. I think we all mailed the applications to Mississauga as you did. I've previously seen on the January outland thread that if you have heard nothing after a certain period of...

We had nothing to update for Schedule A as we already knew from this forum and also British Expats forum that all of the history had to go back to age 18, so we just sent a covering letter explaining that that the history was already going back to age 18 and that we had no other updates since we...

Can anyone remember how long it took them to at the Police Station to apply for the Certificate of No Criminal Conviction? Did you walk in or pre-book an appointment? Hubby is trying to find out how long this will take out of his work day.

I don't know for sure, but I would think she needs to have a Canadian criminal record check if she was in Canada for more than 6 months in a row last year as the document request says: "If not yet submitted: Original police certificates from each country in which you have spent 6 consecutive...

Yes, police cert and updated background and family form (which we don't have to update as we were already aware of the requirement to go back to age of 18 from this forum and British Expats forum). We've already sent the UK police cert in but need to get the HK one. Our case is very...

JANUARY 2017 - OUTLAND SPOUSAL APPLICANTS

Just want to say hello as I've just joined this forum but have been lurking for a while and want to thank everyone for all the useful tips so far. I'm Canadian and sponsoring my British husband. We've been married over 15 years and have two kids (dual Canadian-British passport holders). We've...
