    Volunteer Work and Unpaid Opportunities

So as to not discourage charity-style volunteer work, quoted from the same passage of FW-01: If the volunteer work you're doing is work that would normally be paid -- aka, just unpaid work -- then per the CIC it would require a work permit and you may not do it as a visitor. However, if the...

    Thread for March 2011 Applicants!

Landed at Peace Arch today. Got held up entering the US (I was staying in Vancouver with my wife), had to go in the building and stand in line where the guy filled out a form denying me entry to the US so I could flagpole... even though I told him multiple times that I had to drive down to a...

    Thread for March 2011 Applicants!

mossee, did you export/import a car? And how much detail did you go into on your B4/B4a -- down to serial numbers, or general descriptions (ie, "Box: Personal Items", "Box: Clothes")? Just want to make sure I have a smooth landing too :D

    Thread for outland Buffalo applicants!

She can mail it from Canada -- use Canada Post's Xpresspost service. When you get the PPR email, there's a link that includes instructions for where to send your passport if you're in Canada (Ft. Erie).

question about exporting a car from the US

I'm in the same boat. I called US Customs at the border crossing I plan to land at and they emailed me a document with all the info for vehicle exporting. Underlined, bolded, AND italicized multiple times is the following: I'm currently in Canada as a visitor, so it looks like I'll be taking...

    Thread for March 2011 Applicants!

ECAS updated for me today: I received PPR via email on June 20th, so I already figured a decision had been made, but wanted to note this. It's official, marking 116 days from filing to approval for my case.

    Possible Misrepresentation

Yep. This is a very touchy situation, I'd recommend paying an expert to ensure everything works out.

Final step of sponsorship application and have one confusion, please help !!!

I'd suggest mailing your passport to your mother and having her send all the passports at once to the visa office. Once the vista foil has been affixed and returned to your mother, she should mail the passport back to you. For landing, the principal applicant (mother) needs to land first, with...

CONGRATS!!! Excellent news, mossee! I'm glad to see that all your waiting is finally over and all that's left are landing formalities and paperwork. Welcome to Canada :D I'm a week behind you on PPR, so I'm hoping next week brings then end of my journey, too!

While Outland PR is processing, can spouse come to Canada as a visitor?

This is essentially what I am doing, though I am immigrating from the US. She'll be a visitor in Canada staying with you, and that needs to be clear to the visa officer at the airport when she arrives -- ie, only a bag or two, and a return ticket, for example. I'm currently in Canada with my...

Organizing your app, how did you do it?

My lawyer put the package together and sent it off to CIC, but sent me a copy of everything first. He included, along with my wife and I's completed application package and evidence, a cover letter that briefly outlines a brief summary of my info (birthdate, citizenship, full name, etc), a...

While Outland PR is processing, can spouse come to Canada as a visitor?

Japan is a visa-exempt country, so if your wife is traveling on a Japanese passport, she may enter Canada for up to 6 months as a visitor. When she enters, she will need to convince the border agent that she intends to leave -- return tickets, proof of ties to her home country, etc will help...

    Thread for outland Buffalo applicants!

My wife (sponsor) did this -- she came to stay with me in the US for 5 months. We bought a round-trip ticket for her and just sucked up the cost of the missed return flight. The US Border gave her no issues, just the basic questions they ask everybody that she answered vaguely.

Waiting for PP to be returned from Buffalo, personal experience anyone?

15 business days :P Another week hopefully! Did you prepay the return via UPS and get a tracking number? If so, you can subscribe to updates for that tracking number via email, so the second the UPS guy picks it up from Buffalo, you'll know!

Going from US to Canada with Kindle

If you have a US Kindle, it'll work in Canada over wifi with no issue and keep using the US Amazon Kindle store. If you connect through 3G, it'll work but you'll be assessed an additional $1.99 download charge (for roaming, since the US Kindle is only designed to work on either ATT or Sprint...

When do you get your client ID?

I didn't get my client ID til after PPR :P I used my payment receipt number (IMM5401 receipt number) to log into ECAS using my sponsor's information to find out any updates.

    Thread for March 2011 Applicants!

I've always logged in with my sponsor's info and IMM5401 receipt number... I finally got my file number the other day and logged into ECAS with that info -- shows exactly the same stuff for me (but doesn't show anything about my sponsor, like it does with the IMM5401 receipt number).

Any one know of a good attorney ?

I did a lot of research and hired a lawyer -- there was just enough uncertainty about my wife and I's situation that I didn't want to take a chance. The lawyer I went with has a "money-back guarantee", which really just means they won't accept a case unless they're certain it'll be successful...

    Thread for outland Buffalo applicants!

Just a side note -- it is a big pain in the *** to get a UPS billing account :P Still waiting on mine to be finalized in their system (no it's not automated) so I can send my passport off. Another forum member said he sent his off with a return waybill created using a UPS store's account, but...
