Chances of a visa with a conditional offer letter

Condition was that I clear an entrance exam on my arrival in Canada. If I fail to clear it, then I need to enroll in a 4-month preparatory course. General category, and more importantly, applied on my own right from selecting the program/college/province to the visa application filing.

    no last name in passport

A friend of mine had a similar problem (no last name in his passport) but he went to Australia for his studies and came back, then changed his name in the passport. He was detained for 30-40 mins at the PoE in Australia, though, but was allowed to enter and study in Australia.
