Does anyone know if transiting through Montreal on your way to Toronto (intended landing destination in application was Toronto) could create any problems? I heard Quebec has different rules regarding immigration/PR etc, and I was wondering if the fact that Montreal will be the first place in Canada where I touch down somehow create any problems? Would I have to go through immigration/customs in Montreal when the YUL flight lands there or can I just get on the connecting flight to Toronto and take care of the formalities there?

You can't mention that you have a partner while applying if you were not married at that time. But, when you get marry, you need to declare it after marriage.
But then they will assess your spouse and will ask your copr and passport for cancellation and will have to wait till the assessment process is over and get PR.

Are you planning to land with your spouse or sponsor him?

Thank you for your reply, I would have loved to land with my spouse, but from what you said, that will take another long process and time. Pls would you suggest sponsorship?

Yes, you can sponsor your spouse. However, you still need to declare that you're married if you get married before you land. If you don't declare that you're married, you will never be able to sponsor your spouse.

If you land and then sponsor, it usually takes about a year. And as a PR, you have to be present in Canada throughout that period, though a short trip aboard (~2 weeks) is usually not a problem. You can't land as a PR, start the sponsorship, and then return to be with your spouse.

I plan to travel via Heathrow airport for landing at Canada with my family
Please advice
1. Being a Pakistani.. any need for a transit visa on the basis of IM1 visa if I am not leaving the airport?
2. How much minimum layover should I keep between the connecting flights?
3. Will I have to claim and check in the baggage along with security checks andimmigration/border control during transit?

Dear seniors,

I have a question regarding getting a NEW PERMANENT RESIDENT CARD AFTER THE FIRST LANDING.

It is true that once we do the initial landing , the immigration officer applies for our New PR card at the airport itself.

So my question is that , how much time does it take to get the PR card delivered to our mailing address ? I mean for e.g. if I land tomorrow to Canada and the Processing time displayed on the CIC website on that day is 50 days … So does this mean that like , around 50-60 days at maximum we will get our PR card in hand ? Or this can shoot up to 100 - 150 days as well ? Or it also depends upon the time we land ? Like someone was saying that in summers the processing for a NEW PR CARD is faster e.t.c. e.t.c. … So what was the experience of the ppl who landed in the month of july … were the processing quick ?

Seniors , please advice … or anyone who has been through the same stage please help in this regard.

Thanks..

1. No, but please double check here - https://www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa. I did, and it says
Exemptions
You don’t need a visa if you have one of the following:
a visa for Canada, New Zealand, Australia or the USA (this can be used for travel to any country)

2. I'd recommend a 4 hour minimum. Heathrow can take ages sometimes and you want to build in some time to account for any flight delays. Anywhere between 4-6 hours should be fine.

3. No, your bags will be checked in at the origin airport (Pakistan) all the way to your destination airport (Canada)

Hi landing in a couple of weeks and had a couple of questions on declaring goods/money.

(1) We'll have the accompanying items, and goods to follow, those are fine. However I also need to ship my person computer, quickly, but its too big to have as accompanying item. Planning on using a courier to deliver it, but not sure how to do the declaration (a second goods to follow form for a second shipment ?) and if there is anything special to be done with the courier.

(2) There are a lot of answers here, but its not completely clear how to declare our financial accounts/assets in other countries. We'll have some cash on us, a few hundred probably, and proof of funds with our country of origin bank accounts if its required as proof of funds. But how do we declare the money in our bank accounts and property ownership, so when we transfer the money, or sell the flat that the money doesn't get taxed.

Thanks,

1) Couldn't you bring as excess baggage?

2) Once you became tax residents of Canada, you must report the proceeds of your flat in your tax return and depend on your income at that time, you might get taxed.

- Courier works our at reasonable cost and less effort, will have hands full with other bags anyways. But want to know how to process it. Has anyone done two shipments of Goods to Follow?

- Reporting proceeds is fine, but do we not need to declare ownership on landing and also our other bank accounts.

1) I did multiple shipments (more than once)
2) At landing, no need to declare ownership and bank accounts

Yeah i did that too..wanted to get confirmation from the embassy but they dont provide such info.

There was a flight via Frankfurt and upon inquiring german embassy they say no need but the lay over was 2.15hrs so dropped the idea thinking it was risky cuz of any flight delays from the previous flight or the hassle for going through check in again.. the price was cheaper than Heathrow also..dont know what to do

@steaky for your multiple shipments how did you do it, one Goods to follow list and marked off what was on each shipment when it arrived. Or multiple Goods to follow lists, one for each shipment?
