Oh my god! I understand your question now!!!

CIC's email said:
"At this time, you need to provide a police certificate for:
1) The country where you currently live, if you have lived there for six months or more;
and
2) The country where you have spent most of your adult life since the age of 18.

You must also provide this for every family member (whether accompanying you to Canada or
not) who is aged 18 or older. Please refer to your application guide for a definition of “family

member”. This must be received at this office by: 2017/11/11"

Is any one here can help???
1) How to get police check in Quebec? I have been living here for 6 months :(
2) So now I have to ask my family members who have been living in Vietnam (my country) to get police check and send it to me??? :-O
I'm dying!!!
Only the family members if they are your children or partner I believe

I have only had a letter telling me to link my PR application which I have and then the letter requesting police checks and schedule A. Is there a separate letter I receive for my OWP (which I applied for at the same time as PR)? or am I able to link my OWP application at the same time as I can link PR?
Also in the letter requesting police checks they ask for one for the country you currently reside in if its been more that 6 months. seeing as I have lived in Canada for 2 years do I need to get a Canadian police check with the fingerprints and all??
Hi there,

Yes, you can link both PR and OWP to your online account, you have to link OWP by yourself without any requested letter from CIC. My step is just before you 1 step so I only know these things:

1. Link account for PR application:
You have to link your application to your online account first, everything else will be after that. After you create your online account, you scroll down the page to click on this button to link your account:

After you linked your application for PR and OWP, you will see the table like below, click on red rectangles to see more information:

When you clicked to Check status and messages of PR, you roll down the page and will see this screen, click step 1, 2, 3, then you will get the letter from CIC:

*** Click step 4 to see the list of requested documents (a list like the letter from CIC) as well as the button to upload files online instead of sending them by mail.

* It is quite difficult to link OPW to your online account, so please read (2) to follow the steps.

2. Link account for Open work permit:
http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/threads/steps-to-link-your-sowp-paper-application-to-cic-online.431263/

I just want to comment more for this instruction:
- For (8): It is true that if you DON'T FILL CITY AND COUNTRY OF BIRTH, it works! How amazing it is!!! (#%*)
- But for (12): It depends on your situation.

For example:
- "Apply for permanent resident as a spouse or common-law partner in Canada" means your sponsor is Canadian.
- "Spouse or common-law partner of a skilled worker" means your sponsor is actually a foreigner and he/she works here as a skilled worker.
---> It is very different from each other.

*** Don't forget to use Internet Explorer to fill the forms or link account to avoid errors from the system :(

That's it, you will be able to link your application to your online account! Wish you best of luck!

Have a nice weekend!!!

I hope so, is any one know this thing? Please help!!!
You can look up CIC's definition of "family member" it says
An applicant’s closest relatives, in the context of an application to CIC. It is defined as a spouse or common-law partner, dependent children, and their dependent children.

I sadly can't see your screenshots. Your first mistake is using the same application number for PR and OWP. The application number you got is only for the PR sponsorship. Your OWP application has its own number. To link your OWP :

1. Link your application
2. Category: temporary residence
Sub-Category: work permit and extension
3. Application details: choose the last option - unique client indentifier UCI and family name
4. Fill up the empty spots
It did not work :( . I am in a common law relationship with a Canadian, (im Australian) and have applied through common law. I followed your steps and selected the "applied for PR through common law within Canada" the first time - didn't work. selected "applied for bridging OWP" the second time - also didn't work.
Ive not had any letters saying ANYTHING about my OWP yet. Am I meant to wait for that? I have the letter giving me my PR application number and telling me to link that but NOT the OWP. I applied for it through paper application with my PR application. Is there a SEPARATE letter I need to get for the OWP to be able to be linked?

Okie, I just passed this step 3 days ago. I cannot tell you more here because it takes much time to ask and know exactly what mistake you made when you filled the form to link account. So I can Skype with you if you want. But not now, I have to go to the market then go back home later. You can inbox to arrange time to skype with me then I will open my account while you are filling your form at the same time, I will tell you which option you have to choose. I had same troubles like yours I guess.

That's ok, thank you for your offer, I am at work today though and don't have Skype. I might wait and see if anybody else on here has any idea what might be going wrong

There is no letter/email which requests OWP to be linked into your account. You have to do it yourself like I explained in the previous comment. I think it is available for linking on the same day of AOR for PR. If you have been living in Canada for 2 years it means it is more than 6 months so yes, you do. Check your fingerprints status - Biometrics

Biometrics - We do not need your fingerprints. We will send you a message if this changes.
- if this is the message you are seeing and in your request letter is not stated that you need fingerprints it means you do need to get your fingerprints.

It does say that theyre not needed but it also says no additional documents are needed yet I know they are because when I view my submitted application there is a letter requesting the police checks and Sched A.

Do what you think it's right. If you know/feel like they are needed you can pay extra 25$ (Toronto fee) for the fingerprints and have them ready to submit.

I am not sure, but I think:
1) Additional documents are different from requested documents:
- Requested documents: We all know that CIC will ask us PC and Sched A, and medical test after they started put our application in the process -> Guide 5525 shows it very clearly.
- Additional documents: Guide 5525 also said that CIC will ask additional documents for some countries that listed on CIC web site. Also, some special cases need additional documents to prove the relationship as well.

2) Fingerprints:
- According to the table of application status, CIC said "No need fingerprints".
-> We do not need to send them fingerprints.
- Police check in Canada: According to the process to have PC, RCMP will ask our fingerprints:
"The Canadian visa office will tell you if you need a Canadian criminal record check while your application is being processed. If the visa office asks you to complete a criminal record check, visit the RCMP website for instructions. You must bring:
  • A full electronic set of fingerprints on form C-216C taken by one of these accredited companies or police services
  • A complete application form (available on the RCMP website)
  • Reason for your request (eg. For immigration)
  • Your full name
  • Date of birth
  • Sex
  • Mailing address
  • Phone number (and/or fax number and/or e-mail address)
  • Applicable fees"
So to have PC, we will make fingerprints and then apply to get PC, not sending fingerprints to CIC. I think those things are very different.

I am so happy I found this thread. My common law spouse and I have had the worst luck with his immigration. We hired a company back in May before his open work permit expired to apply for an extension as he is a skilled tradesman and was in a management position for a lumber mill. Unfortunately this company did not apply for anything with his extension ( he had pronvivial
Nominee and express entry available) and we found out 16 days after his expiration of open work permit he had been refused due to no program attached to extension. So we scrambled and got our spousal sponsorship application sent in (did not use a company) sent it via courier to Mississauga it arrived on August 18th but we’ve heard absolutely nothing from them. We’ve just come back to Canada after being on a. Pre booked vacation before the work permit mishap and he’s on a visitor visa for 6 months as he is British. I guess my question is roughly how long does the open work permit part take? What should we expect for a timeline? I know I will be approved as a sponsor, but my poor spouse is going stir crazy as he hasn’t been able to work since the end of July. If we had a rough idea I think it would be better.
The company he worked for tried everything to sponsor him but due to it being a US company the corporate office wouldn’t budge. His job is being held for him which is amazing.

If your application arrived in August 18th there is a possibility that it has been returned. From what I can see there have been people that applied August 26th that have gotten AOR and someone that applied on August 17th got AOR on October 3rd. If it were me I would call them on Monday.
