Hello everyone, I just submitted my documents and CPC received them on Sept 8.

Should I start the police check process now? I am quite confused about this process.
I'm planning to go the local police office to get a POLICE CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK with FINGERPRINTS. Is that good enough? or do I need to submit the FINGERPRINTS and fill out application on RCMP website?

Also, I am in Canada as a student since 2005. I went back home every summer (3-4 weeks per summer). Do I need to get police check from my own country?

Thanks in advance.

What I did when I was in your position I started working on my police certificate from my HOME country on the day when I sent my PR applications - it took a little bit of time when I got the original document from my home country by mail so I could start working on getting a translation for it. After I have received my police certificate I got a Request Letter saying and specifying what I would need to send and what extra police certificates I would need to provide. For me the problem with the Canadian Police Certificate was that I do not own an Canadian issued government ID and the police station didn't want to do one for me unless the request letter specified them to do (which it did not). You have mentioned that u are studying so I am guessing you must have some kind of a Canadian ID? If you do, you can do it but I would still wait until they request it. It might they several weeks before they ask you for it and the police certificate and fingerprints request is done on the spot. Yes getting those two things done is good enough. I also think if they really needed your fingerprints they would have requested it since in the "application status" there is a "Biometrics" row.

It depends on how old you are... On the website they mention that they will ask for the police certificate for these situations...

the country where you currently live, if you have lived there for six months or more; and
the country where you’ve spent most of your adult life since the age of 18.

So if you arrived here at 18 I would say you don't need a PCC from your country.

It took a month for me. I think estimated time is around 3-4 weeks.

Hi everyone!

This is my first time posting! I read through some of the threads and they have been very helpful!

A little about my situation:

I am a Canadian Citizen. My husband is Argentinian. He is currently here on a visitor visa that expires Sept 26 (pretty soon!). Three months ago, I applied online for an extension that would give us another 6 months but still awaiting a response. Looking at processing times it doesn't look like I’ll be getting a response on time. Is that possible? Initially when I applied, the processing time online said 87 days. I applied June 14 so technically we should have received a response on September 9. I have tried to call CIC customer service line several times and each time there isn’t an option to hold on the line. It just simply says the lines are too busy and hangs up. Hoping to get a bit more clarity here! :)

I have a couple of more questions if any of you know or have gone through something similar:

We are getting everything ready to apply for an in-land sponsorship application.

What if CIC does not get back to us on the extension before his current visitor visa expires? Does he have to go back to Argentina? Or should we apply now to in-land sponsorship so he does not have to go.

While the Permanent Residency package is in process, can we travel by plane within Canada if my husband’s visitor visa does not get extended another 6 months (putting him as ‘out-of-status’)? My company holds Annual General Meetings in Vancouver every December and I am not sure if there would be issues at the Airport if he does not have a visa while we wait for PR. We are in Toronto.

Any help would be so much appreciated! Hoping to get some clarity and better sense of which direction to take.

Thanks a million in advance!

Hello!

On the local travel, I don't think there will be any problem even if the extension visa has not come out yet (but of course I do not advice that your husband stay without a valid documentation in place :) ) at the local airport they only ask for the passport to verify the identity of the name in the air ticket, but they don't scan it (just based on my own experience when we travelled to Toronto from Calgary, no passport scanning happened if my memory serves me right)

With the PR application, I don't think sending it now will help that much because currently I think it takes 5-6 weeks for Immi to send an AOR - which effectively gives someone the 'implied' (or bridging) status. I suggest to get patient or be early and be the first caller with the Immi to penetrate their ellusive customer service hotline lols and get answer with your query.

Pls let me know how you go, my visitor visa also expires end of October but the only edge I have over you is that we've already lodged the PR application :)

Goodluck to you!

As per CIC website http://www.cic.gc.ca/ENGLISH/information/times/index.asp they are now treating visitor extension sent on May 11, and the treatment passed to 112 days. Delays always vary. Your husband will be on implied visitor status until you get an answer so he won't have to leave Canada when his visa expires.

My open work permit application was just approved and the final decision was made - accepted (I guess I am just waiting for the SIN card to be delivered by mail?). They updated my OWP status today in the morning for "reviewing my eligibility" and a few hours later I logged in my profile and the whole page was updated that everything is approved along with the final decision (no email notifications were received). My application was received by the office on June 26th. Good luck to everybody and wishing you guys short waiting times !
