Hi, I am new here and I would like to also apply for PR under new Children pathway as it is super quick.

I have couple questions :

1. Just to make sure :) Can I apply under new Children pathway despite of I have been working all the time under live-in caregiver program ?
2. Can I apply for open work permit under new Children pathway moreover can I apply for OWP immediately once my PR application will be send or I have to wait till my recent work permit will be in the period of 3 months before expire ?
3. Did you send PR application and OWP application in one envelop ?

Thanks for your time and help.

Hi vikfee, when are you going to apply? I am also planning to apply under the new rule. I guess they dont have info about owp under the new rule. I applied pr under the old rule last july together with the owp. Where are you here in canada by the way. Hope we could help each other in regards with the requirements.

Yes, that is what I knew.. And I think the new pathway applicants deserved to passing through faster than LCP.
But we can see the persons who sharing the timeline with us under LCP, they got pr soooooooooooo fast than us.. Which is unfair, cause they dont need to get Education assessment, the IELTS and also the photos (lcp wants 2 photos which new pathway wants 6 photos) and other things.
Most importantly, we need to take the risk of refusal....
But see what cic did...
put new pathway applications away and processed the LCP applications... that is a huge UNFAIR.
Can anyone please explain this to me? Why is there a risk of refusal if we, live-in-caregivers, decide to apply under the caring for children pathway?

And also, what is the cap? What does it mean? They will process 2700-something applications a year but it doesn't mean they will issue 2700 PRs a year?

I'm very disappointed. I wanted to apply under the new caring for children pathway and I took all steps for it. IELTS, medical, education evaluation. And then it turns out that I can't apply for an open work permit with my PR application if I want to go under the new rules. My employer doesn't want to keep me any longer than 2 years, it's too expensive for them. My LCP work permit was issued for 2 years. I had to ask the family for at least a short extension so that I could apply for PR. They agreed for a 4 months extension. I applied 3 months before the expiration of my LCP work permit, but seems like CIC decided to take a half year long vacation and I'm still waiting for my extension. By the time it comes and by the time I apply for PR I will have only 1 month left on my extended LCP permit. And under the new rules I have to wait for them to send me AOR (Acknowledgement of receipt) first, and only then I can apply for a bridging open work permit. And I'm afraid that AOR will take longer than 1 month and I'll be out of status and unable to apply for the bridging permit. All of this means that if you want to go under the new rules, you better have at least 2.5 year work permit and your employers better keep you, otherwise I just don't see how it's all possible. I honestly do not understand why I can't apply for some sort of permit together with my PR application. Don't they understand that there should be a way for me to maintain my status? May be there is a way and I just don't know it? Has anyone been through something like this?.. ???

hi marjana.ukr

once you receive your extension/work permit submit right away if you have completed the 2 year requirement. you'll get implied status once you have submitted. make sure you submit all the documentary requirements. approval for new pathway is really fast if all your documents are complete.

1. Yes, as long as you have completed the 24 month period and other requirements.
2. you can renew your work permit anytime. do not wait for three months because processing times can take a while. Check the website for current processing times. OWP is not allowed, as far as i know. PR approval is very fast. I know people who have been approved in less than a month.
3.Send only PR application

Make sure all document requirements are complete to avoid delays in your PR application.

Submit your PR application with the open work permit application under the new program together in the same envelop. Both old and new caregiver PR applicants are eligible to apply for Open work permit. Same procedure.

Hope this helps?

Hi Funsho Heritage,

I am under the live in caregiver program, but I would like to apply for PR under the caring for children pathway this coming April. My work permit with the current family will expire in 2017. So that's planty of time to go... But I was hoping to get an open work permit under the new pathway anyway. But here's the problem... I can not find any information as to both old and new caregiver PR applicants are eligible to apply for open work permit. The only information I have is the following (taken from the CiC website):

Who can apply for an open work permit?

You may be eligible to apply for an open work permit if you are in one of the following situations:

You are already working in Canada, your work permit is due to expire within four months and your application for permanent residence has been found complete or received a positive eligibility assessment under one of the following:
Federal Skilled Worker Program
Canadian Experience Class
Provincial Nominee Program
Federal Skilled Trades Program
:) Caring for Children Class :)
Caring for People with High Medical Needs Class, or
humanitarian and compassionate grounds

As to this info as far as I understand I am NOT eligible to apply for an OWP because my current work permit will not expire within the next four months after I apply for PR (it will expire within 10 months after I apply since it is due to 2017). So does that mean that I have to continue working for my employer until I get my PR and I am not eligible for OPW under the new pathway?

Thanks for your advice! :) :) :)
