Hello all, I wanted your advice on this:
Am doing an(http://www.iict.in/mbahospital.htm) MBA in hospital management :), from IICT, which is online/distance learning program:(. My immig consultant has advised me to wait for this degree before applying. My cumulative points are 67 at the moment:). The consultant says I will cross 70 :p with the masters degree............ and will have better chances.

Theres no harm in waiting for a few more months, but will this online degree be strong enough? After all its an online degree. Will the canadian immigration officers take this degree seriously enough to gimme the points? Your expertise and second opinion would be acknowledged :) or if you can give me a link that mentions the name of acceptable university degree programs?

Cheers.

Is it recognized by the local authority in your country that certifies universities?

You may update CHC about your master degree during the process. go ahead and apply

Alright i will. Thanks a million for your guidance. As its an autonomous program, not registered with with Indian educational highups :(

If its not recognized from your country then NO points.

Regards

there are a few things you should consider...

1)
i don't know how your consultant is calculating your points...

if you are at 67 (as per consultant) now, and after masters you will be at 70, he must be taking 22 points for education. to be eligible for 22 points, you should have

"Three year post-secondary educational credential, other than a university
educational credential, and at least 15 years of completed full-time or full-time
equivalent studies"

or

"Two or more university educational credentials at the bachelor’s level and at
least 15 years of completed full-time or full-time equivalent studies"

if you have a single bachelors degree, then your point for education will be 20 only and a masters with 17 years will fetch you 5 more...

2)
if you are actually touching 67 points, then it does not matter if you have 67 or 70, you can apply now itself. you will have no special advantage or disadvantage. Reason for your consultant asking you to complete MBA must be the consideration that you would not be able to fetch 16 in IELTS. So, he's trying to cover 2 points from that.

As such, your online MBA is most likely not recognised by AICTE and you will not get those points in any case.

do a self evaluation of points on http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/assess/Education.asp and then take a call if you should apply now or not...

is it possible that his consultants said he will only get 22 points with his MBA because of the number of years of studies.

but, 22-3 is 19.. nothing fetches 19.. it simply doesn't add up...

his consultant is bluffing him.. he should do a check for himself once...

sorry miscalc on my part. you are correct. he should be careful or recheck with his consultant.
