So, if i apply for a 90 day extension, that can apparently take upto a month due to back log, i can then continue to work until i hear from them as i will have implied status? they will decline it of course due to IEC not being able to extend visas but i can work while i hear eitherway right?

No - you can't continue working until you hear back. Unless you have a new and approved work permit in hand, you will have to stop working as soon as you IEC expires

IECs are different than other types of work permits in that they don't benefit from implied status (implied status is what allows you to keep working while you wait to hear back about an extension).

So the short answer is no - you can't. Working beyond the expiry of your IEC would be illegal.
