Hi
My parents got multiple entry visitor visa for 10 years.
They first came to Canada in December 2012, after 6 months stay, (June 2013), they applied visitor extension and got approved with 2 years extension, which indicated they can stay until June 2015. However, they went back to Asia for 3 months from Jan 2014 to April 2014, then they came back to Canada. Upon arrival at airport, we asked the boarder officer, how long can they stay this time, 6 months from the day arrival (October 2014)? Or June 2015 as indicated in the extension letter? the officer said the extension letter is still valid, so they can stay until June 2015, so they lived in Canada and left for Asia until May 2015, which is likely one year.

Question is , I heard the visitor extension letter will be invalid as soon as you left Canada. so they have been overstayed (from April 2014 to May 2015)!!!

Can they re enter Canada? Is there any problem when I apply parents sponsorship next year?

I couldn't find any information regarding the extension letter expire information after leaving Canada

Please help!

Yes, when you leave the country all extensions are void.

You will have to apply and see. It would be likely that that was marked as an overstay. People that have overstayed had come back to Canada, so hard to say what would be your situation.

Thank you for your reply.

What can I do now, they are not meant to overstay, we asked to clarify the date, but the airport boarder officer said is totally wrong.

Can I contact CIC for help?
