Hi! Can someone clarify the length of time I can stay out of Canada? I landed last April 16, 2013. I now have my PR card. But due to some work related issues, I need to go back to the Philippines to settle some personal matters. I need to finish my work contract in a private firm there. My work contract ends on April 15, 2014. I was told that I should come back to Canada after 6 months. This seems impossible because of my contract. I will be coming back to Canada probably by April 20, 2014. So in total I will be out of Canada for 9 months. Will I still be allowed to get in Canada even if I stay in the Philippines for 6 months? Thanks!

Correction on the last sentence. Can I still enter Canada even if stay in the Philippines for more than six months?

Yes, you are legally allowed to remain outside Canada 3 years out of 5. So as long as you return before 3 years is up, there's no need to worry.

However, you may not be eligible for healthcare any longer, so you may want to review the health care policies for your province. You may need to purchase private insurance for the first 3 months you're back in Canada.

Thanks, Amikety. Will take note of your advice. I was really so worried about young back. I just needed to settle such issues because when I come back to Canada, I am staying here for good. I don't want to waste this opportunity given by this good country.
