Working Visa information - Permanent Visa?

Hey Guys,

I will be going to Canada next year with my mother and to visit my girlfriend etc, I may have a job lined up and I'll be meeting the manager when I'm over there, my question is, what sort of Visa can I get? He's talked about a 2 year Visa, but I don't know if that can be extended or if through that I can stay in Canada permanently.

Really need as much info as possible, will the employer sort everything out for me Visa wise, or will I have to do things for it as well? Can my Visa be extended or could I apply to stay in Canada permanently etc? And upon my return to Canada (should my visa be successful) is it literally just a case of arriving, saying you are there to work, showing the BA your visa, and that's it?

A lot of questions, I know lol, any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

I'm a UK resident if that applies to any of the above.

No - you can't just arrive and say you are there to work. If you do that, you'll likely find yourself on the first plane back home.

In order to obtain a work permit (this is YOUR responsibility), your employer must first obtain an approved LMO (labour market opinion). If you have the approved LMO and the job offer from your employer, then yes - you can get a work permit when you arrive in Canada (I'm assuming you're a UK passport holder).

As part of the LMO process, your employer will have to advertise the role and prove that no Canadians could be hired. There are other requirements and you can find the details here:

You don't say your age and if you are a UK citizen (rather than just a resident). However if your employer can't obtain an LMO (it can be quite difficult to get one approved), then you should look into the IEC (working holiday visa) program. FYI - it's closed to applications right now until next year.

I'll be 22 at the time and I'm a UK Citizen. What is required to get an LMO? Anything particular?

Yes - there are several specific requirements to obtain an approved LMO. See the link I provided in my first response.
