Working holiday leave date

Hi there, I'm looking to apply for a working holiday for 1 year. I was wondering, would I have to leave Canada exactly 1 year (or less) after I entered?

Yes you have to leave Canada 1 year after you entered.

They don't come looking for you or anything, but you wouldn't be able to work past the expiry date of your visa. If you wanted to take a trip to the US past the expiry date they wouldn't be to happy to let you back in in case you worked past your visa date. If you stay an extra 5 days just to sort your life out and cancel bank accounts etc. it wouldn't be a problem. Especially if you're from a visa exempt country.

I'm from New Zealand so I am visa exempt. If I was to enter Canada with a return flight scheduled slightly after the 1 year period i'd be fine?

You can apply for a visitor visa which costs $150 and allows you to remain in canada for upto 6 months.

During this time you cannot work or study.

Yes, you should be - I don't think you can book a flight over a year in advance.

Aslong as you have a return flight booked and have enough money to support yourself, you shouldnt run into many problems.
