Hey,
I am currently on a working holiday visa from the UK. I previously worked for 6 months as a lifty in alberta where the company took care of taxes and then I moved to BC where I have been working as a sub contractor for a design consultancy. I rang up the CRA some while ago and they said that as a contractor(freelancer) I do not have to pay taxes to Canada and am only taxable by England.
Sounded a bit odd, but I am leaving Canada soon, to return next year, and I want to make sure I file my taxes correctly. Does anyone know if the info I have been provided is correct and whether I need to fill in any forms/pay any taxes before leaving? Also how to declare this in England?
Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Rob.
