Hi all,

I've got a couple of questions regarding PGWP, appreciate your answers in advance!

1. I graduated earlier than expected, and after three months my study permit expires automatically (earlier than the date indicated on study permit), after which I applied PGWP and restoration of student status. in this case can I work while waiting for PGWP?
2. if I can't working while waiting, can I volunteer? (is volunteering regarded as working by IRCC?)

Thanks a ton in advance y'all!
Regards and Stay safe

1. You applied for a PGWP after your study permit expired? Why did you wait? In this case you cannot work until receiving your PGWP.
2. Yes, but be careful. You can't do anything that would normally be the job of a paid employee. Volunteering once a week at an animal shelter is okay, "volunteering" to work for a company for free is not.

@xavieryl What is your timeline? When did you apply? I am also in this situation. I also applied for PGWP along with restoration of student status.
I also missed the 90 days limit to apply for PGWP after finishing university degree. I applied on July 1st, 2020 without biometrics. So, far it says that they are doing my background check and they will inform me once my eligibility review starts. As per my conversation with IRCC customer agent, I cannot work as I have lost the student status in Canada. I recommend you not to work and regarding volunteering, I would recommend you to call IRCC customer agent and ask them about it. Did you also attach the receipt for payment for restoration of student status along with your PGWP application?

You can do paid work as long as you have fulfilled all requirements of PGWP that is finished your course got the letter etc and you are not out of status, meaning your study permit has not expired.

You will have implied status until they make a decision, which means you can normally work, if you have a valid study permit.

Just make sure you are not out of status at the time of applying meaning an expired study permit,

Hope this helps.
