My 47 year old boyfriend is a British National living in Europe. What would be the route for him to be granted status in order for him to work in Canada? I know the obvious one is marriage. Not sure if there is another route he can take. He was originally trained as a Chemical Engineer but has not worked in that field for quite some time.

Thank you for your assistance.

Yes - if you get married, then you can sponsor him for PR using the inland process and include an open work permit with the application. The open work permit will be approved around 4 months after you submit the complete application. Note that he needs to be in Canada in order for you to sponsor him inland. You can also sponsor him if you have lived together for a full year continuously and can be classified as common law.

Otherwise he can look into applying to immigrate to Canada independently as a skilled worker through an immigration program like Express Entry. However given his age, it will likely be difficult to gain enough points to be selected ahead of other candidates.

Realistically, the marriage / common law route is likely far more feasible if your relationship is serious.
