Hello All,

I came in the Canada 10months ago on my IEC visa. I have been working now as Deskside Support Technician. My current contract ends on the end of the October. My employer just confirmed the contract might be extended. I am just worry now about if there is enough time for me to apply for Work Permit now. My employer does not have experience with LMIA application for his employee. Could you please somebody advise what chances do I have now?

Thanks

It's extremely unlikely you'll have the LMIA in time. Before your employer can even submit the LMIA for processing, your job has to be advertised for at least a month to prove no Canadian could be hired for the rule. Once the advertising is done, your employer will have to submit the LMIA application along with a $1,000 fee. Processing can take as long as four months with no guarantee of approval.

You will have to stop working as soon as your IEC expires. You won't be able to start working again until you have a new and approved work permit in hand.

The company I am working for them now is kind of staffing agency which hires people and assigns them for different projects. Is there any chance such a company like this can obtain a positive LMIA from ESDC for me?

Thanks
