hello, i have a question.
Im a Canadian Citizen, i just got married wit American citizen, we live in canada, he would like to apply for work permit, to be available to work here. What do we need to do, so he can get this work permit?
thank you
First you should verify if he qualifies for a work permit under NAFTA. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/special-business.asp#nafta
If he does not qualify under NAFTA, then one option is to find an employer in Canada who is willing to hire him. That employer will then have to obtain an approved LMO (labour market opinion). Once the employer has an approved LMO he can then apply for a work permit tied to that specific employer.
Alternatively you could also sponsor him as your spouse via the inland process. If you do, he will qualify for an open work permit once stage 1 of processing is complete (this will take about 11 months). However note that if you plans to sponsor him, you should apply outland rather than inland. Outland is much faster for Americans (although applying outland does not come with a work permit).
So i understand, that it will not be easy to process that, he is a Truck Mechanic, he worked in New York for 8 years. We was looking that so many jobs offer for this position.
What is a first step we should do?
thank you for your response
Are the two of you planning to live in Canada permanently?
If so, then you should sponsor him as your spouse using the outland application process. This will likely be the fastest option and once he becomes a permanent resident of Canada he will be able to work without having to get a work permit.
yes we are living in canada now, and we are planing to stay here.Is it any other way can be done, to get a work permit faster, it will makes easy to get a job
First your husband must find an employer. That employer must then apply for an LMO. If the LMO is approved, then your husband can apply for a work permit. It's not an easy or fast process. But this is what you'll have to do if your husband wants to work before getting PR.
