Hey guys,

I received my ITA and I'm applying this week for PR. I'll be in Canada by the end of August with a visitor visa (accompanying my girlfriend who's an international student).

1. Can I get a work permit while waiting for PR? I suppose it's dependent on an employer's job offer?
2. When landing, should I tell customs that I'll be in Canada specifically to wait for PR?
3. When applying, I'll have the required funds. But if I burn most of my money while waiting in Canada without a job, could I get refused when I have to do the "official landing" thing? Is finding a job (or working remotely for someone in my country) the only way to avoid that?

Thank you!

1. You would need a job offer and approved LMIA so that you can apply for a closed work permit.
2. You won't be landing - you can only do this once you have PR. You can only enter as a tourist at this time and should make sure you have a return airline ticket. How long you'll be allowed into Canada will be entirely up to the CBSA officer you encounter at the border.
3. You need to make sure you have the full amount required under proof of funds when you officially land. Yes - if you are asked for proof of funds when you land and can't demonstrate you have it - this could definitely be a problem. You have to make sure you maintain your proof of funds until you land. FYI - you can only work remotely without a work permit if the company you're working for has no Canadian customers or clients.

Have you lived with your girlfriend for at least one full year?

Thank you for your answers.

I've lived with my girlfriend for at least a year, yes, but not officially. We're not domiciliated at the same address nor do we have a shared bank account. We both have our own place but we usually live together at one place or the other.

Should I notice CIC that I'll be in Canada waiting for PR results when I submit my application?
