Hi, does anyone here knows how this process works? I just want to have a clear idea on what should I expect. When the employer applied a work permit for you, does it already include the TRV or do I have to apply the visa at the visa office located in my country?

Please also give some ideas regarding the processing time both for work permit and visa.

Thanks in advance!

The employer files for the LMO, you apply for the work permit, visa office asks for your passport (if not already sent with the application), stamps the visa on your passport, then you get the work permit when you enter Canada or at the port of entry. The employer should advertise first- national job bank and a major daily or website then summarizes result of recruitment effort and then files LMO. Advertise for min of 14 days; LMO takes 4 to 6 weeks (some said they got it in 3 wks). Then employer sends you LMO if positive, then you apply. Application time depeds on where you're applying.

Hi job_seeker! Thanks for your reply. I am still confused about this process. I am an Electrical Engineer and as I have read in this website (canadaworkpermit.com/gats.html), if I am a resident of a country that is a member of GATS, I don't need a HRDSC confirmation. Is this true? My employer told me that they will apply for my work permit and as you have mentioned on your post above, I should be the one processing my work permit.

I would just like to add if you also know about NAFTA? Is it possible that they can use this even if I am not American or Mexican?

Only US citizens and Mexican citizens are eligible for NAFTA work permits.

Just what I have thought. In my job contract, it is written there that they will be applying for NAFTA Professional Work Permit. Which, in my case, it is not applicable.
