Hi,

I hired a nanny from the Phillipines who arrived at the end of September. My family travels often and I need to be able to bring her with us. Her work permit is for single entry, how do I have this changed to multiple entry? She was issued the visa in Hong Kong. Any suggestions?

Aside from the work permit, she needs a multiple entry TRV to go back and forth with you. Periods of staying overseas with you will not count towards her 24 months she needs to work to be able to apply for PR but if she gets 24 months in Canada within 3 years, she will be ok for that.

We travel to Mexico and the US for 1 week periods of a time (2 or 3 times a year), so as long as she has a multiple TRV we will be fine?

If your nanny will be exiting only to the US, her single entry visa will suffice.

"A single entry visa allows you to enter Canada only once. This visa may also be used for repeated entries into Canada from the USA or St. Pierre and Miquelon provided you do not enter another country. Such entries must occur within the time validated for your stay in Canada."

She can apply for a multiple entry visa at a Visa Office outside Canada.

Note:

"NEW: We have started a pilot project with a new application guide and forms for the following visa offices: Buffalo, Detroit, Los Angeles, New York, Seattle and Washington D.C. Applicants to these visa offices should use the new guide and forms. Applicants to all other visa offices should refer to the website for that visa office, as indicated below, for forms and instructions."

sure she'll be fine if she has a multiple entry visa. she will need it only for going to Mexico.

yes and she maybe able to apply and get the multiple entry if she applied during one of the trips that the employers have in the US. There was a member (but he has H1B visa) who was able to get in in less than a day.
