work permit revoked

Hi Memebers,

I am working with an IT company and have worked in Canada for more than 2 years on closed work permit.My employer wants me to go back now and my wife is eight month pregnant.She cannot travel.I spoke to my employer if i can avail the leaves for two months as I can apply for open work permit on january 15th but they said if I take leave they will revoke my work permit.I have already applied for PR in May 2014.
My questions:

1) can my employer revoke my work permit ?
2) can I still apply for open work permit on january 15th 2015?

If you have a closed work permit, they can simply stop employment. That work permit is effectively useless at that point. How are you claiming an open work permit?
